Happiness
by Ken R Allen
For some of us, childhood memories are painful and have been hidden deep inside and hopefully forgotten. These memories can come flooding back to haunt us when around and about there appears to be unbridled happiness.
This contrajuxtaposition of the sad memories and extrovert happiness drives many to a state of confusion and low self esteem as we wonder why we too can't be as happy as others are.
So then how can we find "happiness" in the context of the myriad of thoughts, feelings and emotions that are always there, but especially abound at this time of year.
Life consists of highs and lows but mostly it is a time of the in-betweens. It seems to me that it is like a series of dots and dashes, Morse code if you like. I think that we can find the relief that we are all seeking and desperately need in the white spaces in-between those dots and dashes.
How do we get into that "relief" space? Well, for me it is through meditation. The quiet time spent freeing our bodies and our minds of all the rubbish that we accumulate and just letting go. Sometimes I use music to help me find this special place which to me is my sanctuary.
The Bible says that we are all created in the image of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in all of us. It goes on to say that we are the children of God. What a privilege it is that we should be part of the divine.
In the act of letting go we find that the divine essence within is released and we again come into contact with our God, the God that is within us all. When we are with God we find the spiritual peace as we again understand that we are all part of His/Her great and wonderful consciousness.
With God we experience love, joy, peace, harmony, acceptance, forgiveness, happiness, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, compassion, creativity, power, strength, courage and abundance. All of this has been planned for us and is able to be found at the seat of our divine essence.
